Has anyone played Riverwatch in Mid TN. It is south of Cookeville near Smithville. I stopped by there on my way to a Titans game and it looked like a decent course. I think Peter Jacobson designed it. I could see #1 tee-dogleg right with lots of trees, #7-downhill par 3, #8,9-flat and straight and some of #10-hit over a valley to a hill then over another valley to the green. www.riverwatchgolfclub.com #7 is the hole on the start page of the web site.

Golfgoob7,

I haven't played it yet. I take a group of guys on a Spring golf trip each year - this will be our 19th trip in May. We have tee times on May 17th. I can't wait. Everything I have seen on this course looks very interesting and challenging. I have a copy of the scorecard information. From the tips it plays 6850 yards with a course rating of 73+ and a slope rating of 131 or so. (The numbers look similar to those of Lafayette Golf Course near Rough River. We stopped in there for three consecutive years from 2001 through 2003.) The pictures on the website and the topography of the area leads me to believe this could be more than a little challenging.

I first heard of this from a lady over at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson last year. She said it was a hidden gem. We will see. If you don't play it before I go on the trip, I will give you the low down when I get back.

I mapquested from Dale Hollow to Riverwatch as close a possible and came up with 102 miles. I know how much Dale Hollow is liked and Riverwatch may be a good course to play sort of in the area. Cookeville would be a good place to stay, they have all the restaurants you would want. I hope to make it to Riverwatch and Dale Hollow soon to know if I am correct or not. If anyone is going to either one on a saturday and need a partner, let me know.

Garrett,

Here is a link address to a couple of other photos - one of the approach to number 13 and one looking across the lake at the back of number 18 (I believe 18 fairway is up on the hill beyond the green as we are looking at it in this photo). (http://www.evinsmill.com/golf.html) When you type this in for a search in yahoo or google, a webpage will come up. You should see a small photo of these two. Click on the photo and it will enlarge to an almost full page photo of high resolution. Both are quite intriguing and very difficult shots for the respective approaches.

As I said in the previous post, my group will play here on a Thursday and then we will continue on down to Fall Creek Falls State Park for three more days of golf. This trip consists of four days with us playing six rounds of golf and traveling to and from Indianapolis and other locales. It is our annual spring golf "fix".

I will let you know how things go at Riverwatch when we get back to civilization.

David

David,

Good luck with this course. It is probably the hardest course I have ever played. Narrow fairways, small hilly and bumpy greens. There is no room for error for the fairways and greens. Alittle off and you are down a hill into the woods. They had plugged the greens on the front, so very sandy and the green on the back were of average speed. Forced carries to the fairways of ravines and scrub. The 13th hole is one of the hardiest I have played. The fairway is more narrow than it looks from the tee. The rocks that are in front of the green are as big as the golf carts. Played the orange tees-6413-and was a good length for me. I put a 78 on the card but didn't count a few lost balls because of a lack of course knowledge.( Dodn't hate me because of that because I will do the same with anyone I play with). Misses 4 birdies within 10ft. and had 2 birdies made. Bring alot of balls(golf and yours) and patience, you'll need both. Wish I could join you when you come down.

Played 36 at Riverwatch today. Course was in good shape. The greens were slow the 1st. round because of the dew but after they mowed them, they were a little faster. Played bad the first round with 48-40. Second round was better with 42-36 with 3 birdies on the back. Demanding off the tees with narrow landing areas and tough approach shots to the greens with slopes that will cause your ball to go into the woods. I really like this course and recommend it to anyone that is staying in Nashville or Crossville .
