As I promised Jason a few weeks ago, here is my much delayed write-up of .

I really liked the course, especially the back nine. I don't know that I liked it enough to drive three hours to visit it again, but it was one of the highlights of the KY Amateur Series this summer.

Nothing spectacular of note, but at least a handful of really good holes on the cusp of being great. The wind wasn't really blowing much the morning of my round, but anything above 12-15 mph could force most anyone to go to the ground game at this largely unprotected course.
It only took 17 years to get invited to play Idle Hour CC, so we're moving up in the world.

Sounds like it's worth a visit if I ever find myself visiting one of my friends in Eddyville. Would we call it a Top 18 contender?

I may need to do a Western KY trip next year. Now that Marshall County sells booze, an overnight at Kentucky Dam Village with rounds there, at Mineral Mound, and at Novadell could be a pretty fun weekend.

Personally, I think it is worthy of being a Top 18 contender, and definitely worth playing if you're in the area.

Given it's location, being cut from farmland, the land certainly had Cabin Brook potential. But, I think the designer did a nice job using angles, a little earth moving, and some really nice green complexes, coupled with the wide-open wind-scape, to create a really fun but difficult golf course to play.

Plus, it is kept in pretty darn good condition. It is primarily Bermuda, so figure that into to the travel equation appropriately (Check out the Google Maps aerials, doesn't look like much during the cold season).

One man's opinion. I've been wrong at least twice before.

Someone posted on the Louisville Metro Golf page that this course has closed. Anyone else know anything about it? I never did get to play it but heard it was solid.

Wow. Yes, this is apparently correct. Here's a local newspaper article about the course winding down and being put up for sale.

Also, a follow-up article from last month that says a steakhouse is going into the clubhouse.

I only got to play it once, but it was a nice course that was, at the time, kept in pretty immaculate condition. Sad to learn of this fate.

Thinking bigger picture, couple this closure with Players Club of Henderson folding a couple of years ago, and it seems like there is a real dearth of quality public-access in Western Kentucky. Outside of Mineral Mound and KY Dam village, is there much of a golf reason to visit that part of the state?

I suppose a few towns of sufficient size have a country club (i.e., C.C. of Paducah, Owensboro C.C.) that one could try to get on, but it seems pretty bleak otherwise. Beyond Victoria National, is there much of a golf scene across the river near Evansville? Are there casino courses of note on the Indiana side?

I don't know about your other questions, but I do have to say seeing that the clubhouse is being taken over by a restaurant is pretty much a death knell for the golf course. They kind of lose that main hub of activity. I would guess this means whoever owns the land will start rezoning it and selling it off for development of housing or businesses... or at least that would be their hope.

I hear Drakes Creek in Ledbetter is not a bad track. That coming from a college coach. I have never been on the course.
